A week in the Basque Country & Rioja
✷ 2 nights, 2 days in The Basque Country, Spain
The Basque Country is without a doubt one of the most famous food regions in the world for its fresh seafood and fine-dining restaurants. It is also home of the under-discovered (but not for long!) fresh Txakoli whites which are perfect on a night out in one of the many buzzing local dinning-style streets full of Pintxos (think Tapas, but even smaller!) We meet on Sunday afternoon at our hotel in San Sebastián, then spend two full days exploring wineries and food delicacies in the area. We’ll see winemaking in action but also learn about the traditional foods of the region, including the famous anchovies, chorizo, cheeses, basque cider, and more!
✷ 3 nights, 3 days in La Rioja, Spain
After our coastal Basque Country adventures, we head to the heart of La Rioja, where we’ll spend three nights and two full days discovering this historical wine region together (be ready for old mould-y cellars walks, old vines, and discovering the fascinating traditional aged Rioja wines, and the new up-and-comers of the regions). For the adventurous folks, there will also be the option to see the region from a hot air balloon ride at sunrise :) We will also be staying in our very own private villa from the XVI century, where we can come relax, dip in the pool, and immerse ourselves some more into the food & wine of the region!
✷ 1 afternoon & night in Bilbao, Spain
We make our way back to metropolitan life and finish the trip in the vibrant city of Bilbao. After some free-time in the city and a final Friday group dinner (and more Pintxos, of course), we leave you to craft your own Saturday morning, and let’s just say there there are a few bucket-list works of art nearby to explore!
